Announcing the HTML5 is Ready App Contest Winners

Wow, we were impressed and amazed, and, frankly, a little overwhelmed by the entries to the HTML5 is Ready App Contest! We got hundreds of great submissions, so it took a bunch of work by myself, the other four judges, and our marketing team to whittle it down to manageable set of finalists, and then to have all the judges stack rank them to find the winners.

@Trang: your toto app is pretty cool.

The #1 app have cool design but not innovate. Not interested in #2 at all.The #3 app have nice ideal but it quiet simple.None of those 3 apps can render in ie 10. plenty of bugs and poor performance on mobile devices even with the nexus 4

Love to see other submissions to see if what else people can do with html5.

Well done, can’t wait to see all of the apps from the comp!

I was all excited to try JDI. I followed the links on my computer (using Firefox) and the page after registering only displayed a couple of white boxes. Went there on my phone (Droid 4) after and all I got was a choppy looking figure 8 for a background and a loading icon that never quit.

sad face

@RRM couldn’t agree more.. Nothing innovating… all the same old same old. Really have no clue why they’ve called it the html5 ready contest.. Expected more from this…

I do like to see a list of all submissions as mentioned before a lot of people put in a lot of effort..
Besides maybe in that big list there actually is a real winner

Are you kidding me??
After taking a look at these apps i realised i should’ve joined this contest. Any of the apps i made for my company have about 20x as much functionality without the incredible performance issues (Note: I have about 1,5 year ST2 experience)

Really, this contest is to prove HTML5 is ready and you post these shitty apps on your website.. (BEST MARKETING TRICK EVER! -.-)

Love the JDI todo list app - only MASSIVE issue is that you can only set a task duration as upto 1 hour (60min). It’s a little annoying that you have to enter the duration in minutes (e.g. 120 for 2 hours) but although it accepts the value it just shows as 60 minutes. As a designer, mocking up a new homepage can take a few hours, so 60min really isn’t long enough.

Such a tiny thorn in the side of a great app - surely they will fix this quickly.

Congratulations to the winners. Some very nice work indeed. Would be nice to see a list of other submissions. I’m sure a lot of developers put in some solid hours to participate in the competition but no one knows of their apps existence. My submission - FDI Calculator v1.0 (Fire Danger Index Calculator) - http://fdi.synapze.com.au

Well done to all those that entered and placed in the competition! Make sure to check out the entry from ProWebSoftware: http://exploring.prowebsoftware.net
Use it to share your location in real time with your friends when out and about, and look up cycle dock information for London’s cycle hire scheme. Supports iOS, Android and Microsoft Surface!
