Sencha Touch Dev Contest & Hackathon

October 13, 2010 | Michael Mullany

As we get ready to cut the release candidate for Sencha Touch 1.0, we're starting to ramp up some activities to help people get up to speed on developing amazing mobile apps.

Sencha Touch App Contest

Last week we announced the Sencha Touch App Contest. This is a great opportunity for you to showcase your mobile app development talent, and possibly win some pretty amazing prizes. First prize in the contest is $10,000 cash and Mac Pro + 27″ Display (yes, that's a Mac Pro, not MacBook Pro). And the top ten entries are guaranteed at least $2,000 in cash prizes. There are two stages to the Sencha Touch App Contest. For the first stage, you prototype and submit your original, innovative Sencha Touch app by Wednesday, October 27th. For this stage, we expect to see fully functional user interfaces built with Sencha Touch using at least placeholder data and images. Your app doesn't have to be fully completed (no need to have back-end data sources hooked up etc.), but Photoshop mockups, wireframes, etc. are not an acceptable entry. Our judges will then review the prototype submissions and select the Top 10 finalists to move to stage two. All entries will be evaluated on:
  • Quality and Functionality
  • HTML5 Technology and Web Standards Usage
  • Innovation
  • User Experience
For the second stage, the Top 10 entries will refine their application for final submission on Wednesday, November 10th. The top three winners will be presented at Sencha Conference, November 15-17th. In addition to winning great cash and prizes, the three winners will also have an opportunity to demonstrate their new Sencha Touch application to our conference attendees. For more details on how to enter and to see the detailed contest rules, please see the contest page.

Sencha Touch Hackathon

To help you get started (or refine) your Sencha Touch contest submission, we'll be hosting a Hackathon/Open House this Saturday at the Sencha Office in Palo Alto, California from 1pm to 5pm Pacific Time. This is a casual event so stop by for beer, pizza and plenty of mobile development banter. We'll also be doing a simultaneous virtual hackathon on WebEx. Sign up for the hackathon at We look forward to seeing you at the office or online! Happy coding!

This is a great competition which I just can not miss. I have already started to prototype my application, and I hope to be able to subscribe to my participation by October 20. In this regard, it would be possible to provide an official e-mail address to which to send any additional documentation? Too bad I live in Italy and could not attend the event on Saturday, but will say that will comfort me with the excellent pizza at the bakery:). See you soon!

You should put everything you want us to see at the URL that you provide when you register. You can hang your app off that URL as well.
