Generally, Apple does not. The most common way is to size things such that half of an item in a list is show. For example, in the iPhone settings app, you can see a partial item shown at the bottom. They don't have scrollbars as an indicator without first touching, and they never have more toolbar buttons than can be shown at once. Content scrolls, not the chrome.

Yeah, in general I think you should make sure you dont have more buttons in your toolbar then you can see. We enabled scrolling on those toolbars just to make the example work on both the phone and the iPad.

How does one enable the scrolling for the toolbar if it has more buttons than are visible?

I would personally like to see the "more" icon as an option, or some other indicator that there are more buttons if you swipe/scroll.

oh i think i figured it out:

var tabPanel = new Ext.TabPanel({
tabBar: {
scroll: 'horizontal'
}...

however, I still feel that users will not know to scroll if there are more items, it needs some visual indicator that there are more...
