How to change tpl of select box

I tried to change the tpl of select box by specifying the tpl attribute but it didnt work.
Can somebody help. I would like a image along with the text in the select list thats why im trying to redo the tpl.

That is a sweet idea.
What did you try exactly ? Maybe, you need to call on setTpl on the template. Maybe redrawing it ?

Any way, if you go further, I'll be happy to read it.
