Hi all,

So we're currently prototyping a potential project for near future deployment which should ofcourse, in every browser that Ext already wonderfully supports. I've used Ext extensively in some personal projects and have been nothing short of stunned with how beautiful my application is with very minimal effort given the amazing forum support, API documentation, tutorials, screencasts, IRC etc. As a result, I recommended with go with Ext over other frameworks for this project.

The meat of my inquiry is basically that this application will need to scale well on an iPhone. I'm looking to add popup modals with selection interfaces that almost resemble a color picker, but needs to contain other arbitrary data. Also need a lot of inline editing for my grid. (This works pretty well, except the iPhone lacks double click functionality, so I'd need to see if the grid has single click availability for inline editing, and lots of other small things as such.)

Besides the elegant widgets Ext has to offer, I can get premium support out of my budget for this project and this is one of the most influential incentives.

I'd really appreciate on any insight regarding Ext and any notion of iPhone support.

Thanks all.

Remember that Safari for Windows (and the upcoming mac version) is supposed to render and behave identically to Safari for the iPhone. I'd recommend looking at the Ext examples using Safari on your computer (or better yet, on an iPhone) -- see what you think.

In my experience, Ext works very well, but not perfectly, on the iPhone. If you browse the doc center examples, you'll notice that some examples work pretty much flawlessly, while some have various presentation issues. I'm not sure why as I haven't spent any serious time trying to figure it out. It would be possible to add an iPhone-specific stylesheet if one was sufficiently motivated, but that's not something we're going to do anytime soon.

I would definitely prototype your UI first and test it out before investing tons of time building out the app. Please report your findings as I'm sure many would be interested in the results.

I would be very interested in finding out about this... i'm already working on a project that i'd like to have a "slimmer" version for the iPhone, but I'd also really like to leverage my meager-but-growing knowledge of Ext...

let us know what you find out!
