There are at least four books out of Ext.
1) Cookbook
2) Learning ExtJS
3) ExtJS in Action
4) Practical ExtJS with Gears

It took me a week to learn the syntax, those matching curly braces can make your head spin for casual observer for badly written code. The framework is huge, so learn things in steps. Pick an example and then divide it in parts and consult the documentation. Pick grid for example (you need a datastore + a proxy + a grid panel) attack individual parts.

I can tell you Ext JS in Action does a great job walking you through things.

1. View the examples
2. Try to duplicate using documentation
3. Read source to understand whats going on
4. Success
