We plan to use Sencha Touch to build our application, but the requirement covers different HTML5 browsers support like Firefox (mobile and desktop), IE9+ (mobile and desktop). We tried current Sencha Touch 1.X and it only supports webkit based HTML5 browsers... Will the next Sencha Touch 2.X releases support other HTML5 browsers like Firefox and IE9?

It is possible but for 2.0 GA release no. WebKit is the majority browser by far currently.

Any sense on roadmap or limitations?

We're looking to build "once" for desktop/mobile, Sencha Touch 2 is extremely promising w/ it's profiles and adoption of the ExtJS MVC system.

If I had a sense of "if" (or "when") that would be helpful, or, a list if known limitations. Doesn't have to be complete, but just to get a sense of how big the gap for desktop might be if we tried to close it ourselves.

Thanks!

I haven't attempted it but the CSS uses '-webkit' a lot so that would have to be changed. Also, we do a lot of things under the hood to try to work with the differences between iOS and Android (BB also) so there may be other issues in the actual JS code to support others but CSS is a huge feat to undertake.

We can't give you an exact date or version for when we will support these other browsers, but we are definitely looking at the possibilities and will inform you guys when we have more information on this.
