View Full Version : IDE to work with EXT JS 4 projects
27 Jun 2012, 9:49 PM
I have downloaded Ext js 4 SDK. I found the examples within it. I need to know a good IDE for me to open an example project from the Examples folder. So i could browse through the MVC folder structure properly.
I did download Sencha Architect but it is expired, so tell me some other options.
I do have Eclipse, but i couldn't import the project to eclipse. If anyone knows how i could do this, please give me step-by-step instructions. Or else if there is any other IDE which is free to download please let me know. I am using Windows Vista

I strongly prefer to use Sencha Architect (If it is expired & you like it, you must buy it).
But, if you want to try something else, check them out:-
Aptana Studio (http://www.aptana.com/products/studio2)
CodeRun (online) (http://www.coderun.com/studio/)
eCoder (online) (http://ecoder.gmeditor.com/)
And for tracking bugs, you may use firebug during development

How can you open the project via Eclipse ?

You'd either need to copy the contents into a project that already exists in your Eclipse workspace (can be done via File → Import → File System), or you can create a new "General Project" within Eclipse and specify the location to be the path of your files already on disk.

I selected import --> Menu --> then i select general project --> File system ?
And when i go and select the \extjs\examples\app\simple I get a message saying Cannot import into a workspace with no open projects. Please create a project before importing.
How can i resolve this ?

You can't import files if you don't have a project to contain them. You can create a project via File → New... → General → Project. You can choose either to use the default location and then import your files into it, or you can manually set the location to a directory somewhere else that already contains the files.

Oh.. Thank you i got the sorted out. But is there a possibility for me to click on the Run button to launch the application ?

For ExtJS projects, "running the application" really just means opening the webpage in your browser, unless I'm misunderstanding. Personally, I just have a browser bookmark I use, but if you really want to you may be able to set up an external tool launcher in Eclipse to open the browser to the proper page. I haven't ever done that personally, though, since I don't really see much to gain by it.
