Why does the validator fire so many times?

I have a roweditor on a grid with about 12 validated columns. I checked, and the validator runs 146 times when I open the roweditor for the first time, and about 30 to 60 times on consecutive opens.

(I haven't tried varying the number of validated columns, so I don't know what kind of correlation there is between that and the number of validation runs)\

Looks like because the validation is kicked off for focus (default), when the row editor is positioned, loadRecord is called on the form and others
