I tried adding the properties

hlColor: "FF0000",
hlBaseColor : "00FF00"
to several trees from the example dir without changing anything else but I didn't notice any visual effect. I'm using yui-ext 1.0 alpha 2. I posted about this in the before: http://www.yui-ext.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3499

These colors are for drag and drop highlight. Is that what you were using them for? I just made some changes to the tree defaults, and testing in the reorder example it worked as expected. So either it is fixed or you were expecting a different behavior?

Aha, ... I was expecting a differnet behavior:
I actually intended to change the block color of the current selection when navigating through a tree or when clicking on a tree node to a nicer blue then the default blue.

That's done with CSS. You can include the css anywhere after the ext css, or you can do it by id.

.x-tree-node .x-tree-selected a span{
background:#FF0000;
color:yellow;
}
