I would like to announce the conjoon open source project.
conjoon is a web based personal information manager (*with the ambitions to become a groupware).
conjoon has been developed for over one year now, with a strong focus on message exchanging. It utilizes Ext JS and the Zend Framework.
During the various development cycles, subprojects have grown out of conjoon and were quickly adopted by other projects, such as the Ext.ux.Livegrid (http://www.siteartwork.de/livegrid).
Features in the 0.1a1 release:
Workbench
Menubar for quick access of often needed functionality
Statusbar with status messages and request indicator (progress bar)
Tabbed browsing
Bookmark menu to quickly navigate between opened tabs/modules
configurable view
show/hide QuickPanel
QuickPanel
quick edit for
emails
contacts
view latest emails
view news items from the feeds module
Email module
POP3 support
SMTP support
UTF-8 support
complete folder management: move (drag & drop), rename, delete, create
inbox folders
junk folders
outbox folders
sent folders
draft folders
trashbin folders
configurable view
show/hide folders
show/hide preview
move preview west/south
create/save/edit email drafts
outbox support
smart Rich Text Editor to simplify the process of creating plain text emails
consistent implementation of drag & drop (moving emails between folders)
label messages
latest
read/unread
spam/no spam
replied/forwarded
automatic recipient lookup in personal address book when creating emails
support for visually representing emticons
automatic querying of new emails for the configured accounts
support for email signatures
support for (theoretically) unlimited email accounts
Feeds module
support for atom/rss feeds
automatic querying of latest feeds
label news
read/unread
and more. The roadmap shows IMAP/Exchange support, multi user support, email filters, virtual folders, contact management, Task-lists, instant messenger and calendar.

Thanks for your gratulations, I've been on vacation and have worked on an install wizard for conjoon in the meantime. V0.1a3 will be up this evening. V0.1a3 is ready for download from http://www.conjoon.org
AIR/Gears support is something I've considered during development, and it'll be definitely in one of the future releases.

Last night the transfer of conjoon.org (http://www.conjoon.org)/.com (http://www.conjoon.com) was started. We are updating the servers due to the popularity the project gained, and well be back with more performant hardware. We are also planning on providing a live demo, so stay tuned.
In the meantime, please use the address www.conjoon.de (http://www.conjoon.de), which serves as our fallback domain.
Domain transfer complete, www.conjoon.org (http://www.conjoon.org) is available again.

0.1RC1 is in the works and scheduled to be released at the beginning of next week.
Below is a screenshot previewing some features that made it into this version, such as the ResizableAccordionLayout (which I plan to release as a separate OS extension), a Twitter Client and iPhone support. There have been also made some changes and improvements to the backend.
lately, there was an interview about conjoon - it's in german, I might ask for an english translation if you are interested (yes, I'm praising Ext JS in there, of course ;) ). You can find it here: http://t3n.yeebase.com/interview-thorsten-suckow-homberg-denke-conjoon-noch-239814/

Looks like the "base_url" in the config.ini.php is not properly configured. Is it set to "conjoon" (since it seems you want to access the app out of the folder "conjoon")? Did you use the install wizard? Is mod_rewrite for your apache installed?

I am sure that mod_rewrite is installed:
httpd.conf:
LoadModule rewrite_module modules/mod_rewrite.so
is mod_ssl.so a must?
No, mod_ssl.so is not needed by conjoon per se.
What is the value for "RewriteBase" in the file ".htaccess" in the root folder of conjoon?
You can try to copy/paste the contents of .htaccess directly in your server config, but check first if you are allowed to override configuration settings using .htaccess. Probably the file is ignored.

Hello MindPatterns ;
Can you tell me which IDE are you using on this project?
Thanks.
I'm using UltraEdit - I tried Eclipse with various plugins during my career as a developer but always turned back to UltraEdit since it's so fast - so nothing fancy here.
Other than that, I'm using SVN as the vcs, trac as the wiki/bugtracker along with bitten, a continuous integration plugin. Phing is responsible for the build process.

The 0.1RC1 release is almost there - in the meantime, I have synced the public SVN. For those who are interested - you can view a few stats over at http://www.ohloh.net/p/conjoon or browse through the source at http://wiki.conjoon.org/browser/trunk.
People who are working with Zend Framework might be interested in the way conjoon deals with batched requests made by the Ext.Direct API: http://wiki.conjoon.org/browser/trunk/src/corelib/php/library/Conjoon/Controller/Plugin/ExtRequest.php is the source of the plugin that is capable of managing Ext.Direct requests, without exposing the backend API to the client.

Releasing 0.1RC1 took some time due to migrating to Ext 3.0.3 and Zend Framework 1.9.4. However, I'm very proud to announce the immediate release of conjoon V0.1RC1P - which is a build-only, preview release for V0.1RC1.
There are some known issues regarding IE7 and IE8, but we didn't want to let you wait any longer - visit http://www.conjoon.org for more informations.

I love how polished it looks. =D>
Is there a way to create an email-connector for gmail / hotmail / yahoo with your Email module?
I'm imaging an email front-end that allows me to view my emails from multiple providers in one place. And when I click reply, I want that email to be routed through the original provider (hotmail via hotmail, gmail via gmail... etc.) Can this application do that?
ThorstenSuckow
8 Dec 2009, 4:11 AM
Thanks for the feedback.
Yeah there will be IMAP support in the 0.2 release, so stay tuned.
As for the changelog - I have not found any changelog generator yet and I have been to lazy to collect all the changes that were made - I'm 600 changesets ahead from the last version so you can tell that a lot of improvements and bug fixes have found their way into this release. I also focused a lot on performance so the caching options would be one of those enhancements. Oh, and the twitter client rocks. You should go check it out.
There are a lot of programming goodies in the source but this is mainly something for the dev itself to find pleasure in, such as the Zend framework handling stacked requests made by the Ext.Direct-API using some plugin galore. It paves the way for future development though, so more exciting news are about to come!
In the meantime I have updated the download section with a new version, 0.1RC1Pr935, as users have encountered some issues when working with *nix machines. Everyone is recommended to update to this version.

We are proud to announce the second release candidate of conjoon 0.1 (conjoon 0.1RC2). This RC focuses on bug fixes, Ext 3.1 integration and security enhancements, and should be the last candidate for the next stable release.
Here's a list of notable fixes/enhancements that made it into this release:
[Email module - backend]
fixed an issue where protocol would get overwritten on account update
actions
fixed: sending emails would not consider the configured port for the outgoing
mail server
[Email module - client]
fixed a critical issue where the state of a panel would not be saved when
deactivating this panel (closes #369 (http://wiki.conjoon.org/ticket/369))
[Security]
fixed a possible security hole that could occur if relative links are used
in feed items (closes #371 (http://wiki.conjoon.org/ticket/371))
[Feeds module - backend]
fixed an issue that would break importing/adding feeds when a call to
"getLastDateModified()" from Zend_Feed_Reader on the specific resource would
return NULL (closes #370 (http://wiki.conjoon.org/ticket/370))
[Feeds module - client]
fixed an issue where the dialog would not be closable after an error occured
on the server during adding a feed (see #370 (http://wiki.conjoon.org/ticket/370))
[Twitter module - client]
fixed an issue where the local Twitter account store would not be updated
with the most recent values after data has been successfully submitted to the
server (closes #361 (http://wiki.conjoon.org/ticket/361))
Please download and test this release candidate, and report any issues found. A stable release is expected next week. In case of critcal issues we will continue producing weekly RCs. Downloads and further information is available at http://www.conjoon.org/downloads. See also the most recent installation/upgrade guide at http://wiki.conjoon.org/wiki/Users/Guide/Installation.

Thanks for the feedback @Palastanga :)
In the meantime, we have released conjoon 0.1RC3. This RC focuses on issues we came across during tests on various systems, and we want to thank Marc Steinert and Johannes Hahn for providing us with detailed bug reports.
Notable changes from the changelog:
[Email module - client]
fixed an issue where the EmailAccountWizard would be opened twice if no email accounts are available due to reserved method name "onShow()"
[Twitter module - backend]
fixed an issue where reading out Tweets from a newly imported account with no Tweets yet would trigger an error
[General UI]
removed debug code that would trigger an error in other browsers than FF

I'm proud to announce the immediate release of conjoon V0.1.1. This is a maintenance release in the 0.1 series which provides several bug fixes.
From the changelog:
[Ext.ux.Livegrid]
- brought Ext.ux.Livegrid 0.4.1 into the main dev branch which fixes an issue
reported by hflipman (http://www.conjoon.org/forum/showthread.php?346) regarding
the loading of selections
[Reception module - client]
- fixed a consequence of a possible race condition that could occur if a user
sets the workbench into "standby", then a login with the same user credentials
is done on another machine, and the previously locked workbench is unlocked
again
[General]
- fixed several trailing comma issues that would prevent IE7 from starting
the application
[YoutubePlayer]
- updated conjoon to use Ext.ux.YoutubePlayer 0.4 which fixes a few issues
and introduces functionality to chose from different video resolutions based
on the resolutions the currently playing video provides
[Feeds module - backend]
- fixed an issue where item facade's "importAndAddFeedItems()" would not handle
an exception other than "Zend_Http_Client_Exception" properly, thus breaking
updating other feed items resources if any other exception was thrown
You can download the latest release at the official download page (http://www.conjoon.org/downloads).

I've had finally the time to set up a demo.
The demo's purpose is to give you a first glance of the features of conjoon. Therefore,
you can only use one preconfigured email account
only the latest 10 emails from this preconfigured account will be fetched every time you check for new messages
you can't edit, add or remove email accounts
an additional signature will be attached to each message you send from the demo
The demo is available at http://demo.conjoon.org. Please visit http://www.conjoon.org/demo for further instructions and informations.

Hey there,
conjoon 0.1.2 is available and introduces ExtJS 3.1.2 to the 0.1 branch of conjoon. You can read the release announcements over at http://www.conjoon.org/blog/2010/03/30/conjoon-0-1-2-released/.
In short, the release focuses on ui enhancements and improving the installation wizard. We have encountered some problems on unix based systems and hope those issues are now ironed out.
For the 0.1 series, we will provide bug fixes from now on. New features are all added to the 0.2 branch, which also introduces IMAP support.
Oh, and make sure you check out the official demo over at http://demo.conjoon.org! :)

Hi Thorsten,
Thank you for sharing your fabulous work of art.
When I'm out on vacation beginning next week, I have time to study and learn from 2 great examples and a new tool.
1. Your awesome product
2. Jay Garcia's app.zip -- this is using CodeIgniter from what I have read
3. Also play with the new Ext Designer
4. And more time with your LiveGrid user extension
My goal is to become better at doing Ext JS.
I can never thank you enough.
Cheers,

+1 agree.
I have looked at making the scrollbar more user friendly and consistent between browsers. During the last 3 days, I made 2 attempts at it and documented it beginning here for the work I done.
http://www.extjs.com/forum/showthread.php?p=451551#post451551
In any event both attempts failed. The 2nd was very close and it was very nice. But, IE 6 changes the minimum distance the scroll will move depending on the height of the window, where Firefox and WebKit is a fixed amount.
Our users have expressed on not wanting to have to page through a grid. It's now the year 2010 and I agree with the users. The LiveGrid is there for prefetching, buffering, etc.

conjoon 0.1.4.RC1 has been released. This is a maintenance release which finally introduces oauth support for conjoon's Twitter module.
Notable changes from the changelog:
[Twitter module - client]
changed ui of both Wizard/Options panel to consider Twitter’s new oauth authorization process
[Twitter module - backend]
fixed some issues related to deprecated parameters Zend Framework would still use when communicating with the Twitter API (see ZF-9215)
fixed types of fields which would still be set to “int”/”float” whereas “string” should be used now
[Vendor]
Updated Zend Framework to version 1.11.6

0.1.4RC2 was just released.
Notable changes from the changelog:
[Email module - client]
fixed an issue where an email would not be properly referenced when preview window was dragged & droppped into the content panel, then any operation on this panel would have been invoked (reply, reply all, forward) due to the fact that the EditorManager would only accept a record of type EmailItemRecord for creating an editor instance, but not EmailRecord (closes #381) (thanks to larissa84)
[Feeds module - backend]
fixed an issue where the “author” field of a feed entry would not be stored properly in the database, thus, showing the value “Array” as the author name: adjusted backend code to inspect the return value of “getAuthor()” of the feed entry object and apply found values properly (closes #382) (reported by e-mike)
[Twitter module - client]
fixed an issue where replies would not be linked properly due to wrong data type for specific fields; changed those fields to type “string” to make sure that containing ids can be rendered properly (closes #376)
[Workbench]
fixed an issue where the “startup” sound would not play as soon as the workbench is in “ready” state, even if the registry tells that system sounds are enabled: resolved by adding a “onload” listener to the SystemSoundManager that would call attached listeners to tell that it’s ready to be used; previously it was assumed that the driver is ready to be used as soon as the workbench is available (closes #379)
[General UI]
fixed an issue where some regions of a container would not be clickable if it was masked previously by a feed/email preview, and this preview would have been hidden using it’s animation function: adjusted callback so the anim element’s container gets hidden, too (closes #378)
[Datastore - mysql ]
fixed an issue where two different indexes would target the same column: changed index “user_id” to operate on column “user_id” (closes #377)

* [CN-401 (http://www.conjoon.org/issues/browse/CN-401)] - File SystemMessagemanager.js cannot be found during build process of login-target
* [CN-403 (http://www.conjoon.org/issues/browse/CN-403)] - Preset property "default.caching" not properly considered during installation process
* [CN-404 (http://www.conjoon.org/issues/browse/CN-404)] - Wrong doctype declaration in reception's index.html
* [CN-409 (http://www.conjoon.org/issues/browse/CN-409)] - "Fetch Email" button is rendered active when activating Email Tab for the first time
* [CN-412 (http://www.conjoon.org/issues/browse/CN-412)] - Builds do not get generated from proper version
