My first site created using the extjs libraries. It uses the viewport layout, panels, accordions, a cms admin (tree structure for menu items and cfkeditor cms) flash with panorama 360

Nice for playing with and definitelly nice work, but IMHO it is not a good way how to build generic sites. What about SEO, and accessibility? :)

Yes, SEO is a big issue here. I php echo content behind the panels which is detected by the lynxviewer which is seen by google. http://www.delorie.com/web/lynxview.html

But this is definitely not a perfect solution. Page related content which is related to the description and / or keywords can't be generated. :-/

Any idea's are more than welcome!

Regards,
Chris.

wow. 2 MB for the initial page load. I hope none of your users are on dialup.

This is mostly because of the 360

One could use existing html and convert it into Ext'ified' content, but I agree with other posters above, that using Viewports and the like is not the best solution for front-end sites.

Even if most of the overhead in this particular example is due to some flash content, there is more JS/imagery then actual content being downloaded. That gives food for thought.

This might seem an open door, but Ext (IMHO) really is ment as a web *application* framework. I think most sites do not need the look and feel of an application, rather than some usability and graphical benefits that even plain old vanilla JS can provide. (And where Ext also has a strong potential, look for example at the homepage or examples section of extjs.com)

However, your site looks good and I think does what it needs to. I'm sure your client and his are excited to see and use it :-)

Thank you for your much appreciated comments!

Indeed, the customer enjoys his new framework! Responses like 'this is a new approach' & 'this is totally different' and likewise excitement isn't rare among visitors. This example is intended to explore the possibilities of extjs. I stretched the boundaries I guess and although I've found a few examples using only the viewport, indeed its unusual to sollaly use it as the frontpage. Maybe there's new ground here for extjs, maybe not, but there's improvement possible in the way search engine's can get there content from these frameworks I think(?). Somekind of new sitemap in the making? in which javascript & maybe actionscript could benified from?

Digging your suggestion mjlecomte, about the solution samuraijack1 is working on, I came across this on the symbie site:

At the present time, the only (though quite important) drawback of Symbie is the fact, that web-sites, written on it, cant be indexed by search engines, because their's robots do not execute JavaScript. This problem can be solved with the creation of server-side rendering service - specially for those robotos, based on Mozilla Gecko Engine. This component is under construction.
Any updates on this samuraijack1 ? I would like to involve myself into this project if its still in progress

He-he, now it is:

Hm... pure JavaScript, what about SEO then?
Symbie applications supports fully SEO, even that search engines spirders dont execute JavaScript. This achives with the server-side rendering service, specially for spiders, based on "Gtk Mozilla Embedding Widget". Additional factor of Symbie's "SEO friendly-ness" is that it allows to implement site navigation with standard tags.
