Does GXT currently support row filtering in a GridPanel in the same way ExtJs does? I.e. can you add filter options to the columns popup menus depending on the column types?

Yes you can add anything you want to that headermenu. You need to override createContextMenu of GridView. Take a look how GroupingView is handling it.
