This is not fresh news, but for those who had a problem with ColdFusion not being free (as iin beer) then Railo is for you... it's a cfml engine and as of version 3.1 it's free (as in beer)
I don't work for these guys or have any association with them, but I've been playing with the 'live' server today (one you just download and turn on) and it's great!
Head on over to http://www.getrailo.com/ for more info.
(from their website)... why railo...
If you're already a CFML developer
Existing CFML developers are choosing Railo CFML for:
Compatibility
Railo has good compatibility with other CFML engines. Most sites can be ported to Railo with very little effort and all of the major CFML frameworks support Railo out of the box.
Performance
Railo will very probably run your sites faster than any other CFML engine, allowing you to handle more load and to provide a better experience for end users.
Innovations
From resources to encryptable JARs, Railo is continually innovating to make harder things easier than any other CFML engine.
Ease of Deployment
Whether you want to deploy to a server or the cloud, we provide for small, simple deployments. And you don't have to worry about licensing issues as the license is free. If you're a Java developer
Then you're really in for a treat. Railo CFML offers:
RAD development
A dynamic scripting language (dynamic typing, object and class based mixins) that runs on the JVM for rapid development of web applications that you want
Better than JSP
A powerful tag based language for easy front end development (much easier that JSPs, but with full compatibility with JSPs)
Mature frameworks
From ColdSpring for DI and AOP to MXUnit for a JUnit style testing environment, the CFML community offers tooling for building professional web applications - quickly and cost effectively.
Existing IDE plugin
CFEclipse is a plugin for CFML development in Eclipse so you don't have to give up your IDE! If you use other scripting language like PHP
Then you're going to enjoy CFML. Just ask an CFML developer and they'll probably mention:
Simplicity
More powerful tags for simple file, email, database and other common operations.
Best Practices Support
If you want to build OO apps using TDD, you can do so. If not, you can still hack out working scripts in minutes.
Frameworks
A wide range of frameworks designed to make it quick and easy to build well designed web applications.
OSS Projects
RIAForge has hundred of pre-built projects so you can quickly deliver anything from a blog to a content management system.
Robust deployment
Railo CFML is easy to manage and deploy, but it's sitting on top of the Java Virtual Machine so it can be deployed to any servlet container or J2EE application server and can take advantage of all of the tooling available for deploying and maintaining Java applications (JMeter, Maven, etc.). Want to find out more?
Why not download (http://www.getrailo.org/index.cfm/download/) Railo CFML today?
