View Full Version : Conference - Carpooling from airport

Yesterday I got an e-mail from Jodi saying I had to provide my own transportation from the airport to the Ritz. The suggested shuttle van charges $60 per person each way. Seems a little steep.

Does the Ritz not provide pick-up service? Or are there just too many people for the hotel to pick up?

Does anyone want to save money/gas and split a taxi or rental car?

My flight gets in mid-afternoon Monday.

$60 is way too much -- that car service better be a limo or a sweet sports car for that price.

I called the hotel to ask about a shuttle van, and the Ritz has none. The lady I spoke with said cabs generally run about $30-35 from the airport as it's only 10 miles away.

My flight gets into Orlando around 8:30pm, so I'd love to carpool but I don't think it works for the two of us.

My flight gets in at 3:30pm. If anyone wants to share a cab, call me at [redacted]. From the neck up, I look like my avatar. :-)

If not, I'm probably going to do the ecological thing and use the local Lynx bus system. It takes two buses to get to the Ritz Carlton, but the transfer is free. The fare is $2. Unfortunately, it takes about 90 minutes.

The bus stop is located on the A-side of the airport's main terminal, on the ground transportation level (Level 1), at commercial lane spaces A38-A41.

Bus 42 departs westbound from the airport on the half hour between 6:00 to 22:30. About 50 minutes into the ride, get off at the intersection of Oak Ridge Rd and John Young Pkwy (also known as Rt 423). Mid Florida Tech is on the southeast corner of that intersection.

Transfer to southbound bus 57 which runs every hour on John Young Pkwy. The southbound bus stops at that intersection around 10 minutes past the hour. About half past the hour, get off at Central Florida Parkway (also known as the the Taft-Vineland Rd), I'm told its near the Marriott. The Ritz Carlton is on the southwest corner of that intersection. Its on your right as you're heading south.

Don't take bus 42 from the airport after 19:00, because bus 57 stops running at 20:00 and you'll get stranded mid-route.

Because the southbound bus 57 only runs every hour, you'll probably want to take the airport bus that leaves on the hour. If you take a bus that leaves at half past, the wait at the transfer intersection will be more than 45 minutes. The wait is about 15 minutes if you leave the airport on the hour.

Returning to the airport on Thursday, the northbound bus 57 leaves the Ritz about 20 minutes past the hour. Bus 42 arrives at the airport about 90 minutes later, right before the hour.

Bus route information is available at: 407-841-5969 in case these directions are wrong or confusing.

If worse comes to worse, the area taxis are:
Ace Metro/Luxury Cab: (407) 855-1111
Diamond Cab Company: (407) 523-3333
Quick Cab: (407) 447-1444
Star Taxi: (407) 857-9999
Town & Country Transport: (407) 828-3035
Yellow/City Cab: (407) 422-2222

Taking the bus is differently the best solution. The longest you're not in a rush, and hey you do get to see more of Orlando!

At the airport definitely. Abandoned on the side of the road by a bus, perhaps not!

I personally like taking the buses and seeing the local people and city! Everyone's different.

When I went to a conference in Montreal last year I took the bus to my hotel and when I left I then simply took a taxi straight to the airport.

Good thread - thanks for the info. I'll be arriving at 7:10pm from Boston. It looks like Mears Shuttle is the way to go, especially since it appears the Ritz-Carlton charges a mandatory $20+/day to valet your rental.
