Hi again,

still evaluating GWT (and ExtGWT) for use as an extensible editor. To create detail editor panes, it would be helpful to specify the widgets in some other way that creating each with multiple lines of Java code, then connecting everything manually with event listeners. I'm thinking more of a (possibly XML based) text format which is parsed and interpreted - something like XAML or MXML or the xtype-JSON format of ExtJS (which seems not to be supported by ExtGWT).

AFAIK, there is no support for reflections but one could probably create factory methods which create and initialize widgets, then performing some data binding using some kind of registry. GWT contains an XML parser, which is the format I'd prefer because it would be possible to create an XML schema which then helps the IDE to provide "code" completion. Evaluating JSON code should also be possible and overlay types could perhaps be used to provide a nice access layer to the UI specifications.

Are there existing frameworks providing such UI specifications?

Are there better approaches to the problem to specify UIs easily?

Any ideas or pointers would be helpful.

Thanks
Stefan
