how to select multiple items using keypress inside a dialog box?

hello..

i have a dialog box..inside of this dialog is a selection of items..I'm using keypress..in selecting each item like pressing 1 for the first item.
How can i select multiple items..by pressing multiple keys..without closing the dialog box?

any suggestion? pls..help
