Embedding HTML / Controls In Toolbars

How easy would it be to embed other controls or arbitrary HTML inside a toolbar? Perhaps I should extend ToolbarButton? For example: I would like to have a report that allowed the user to change the date (or range of dates) from within the toolbar.

Check out the docs for add(), it takes a button, a text string, the word separator or any html element.
