hi

i thought i should point this to you guys as i found a framework for .Net product family copying Ext.

http://samples.gaiaware.net/

those guys don't only copy the controls layouts and styles, but also the design of the Extjs website, specifically the samples page, and form what i have seen parts of the design of saki's sample pages.

they even use the same classes names!!!
can you believe the nerves on those guys!!!

i actually found some code and questions on the forum for what i think some of their team members trying to copycat extjs and asking questions about it, just search gaia on the forums to see(or click here (http://www.google.com/custom?hl=en&client=pub-2254910920545319&cof=FORID%3A13%3BAH%3Aleft%3BCX%3AExt%2520Forum%2520Search%3BL%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2Fintl%2Fen%2Fimages%2Flogos%2Fcustom_search_logo_sm.gif%3BLH%3A30%3BLP%3A1%3BVLC%3A%23551a8b%3BGFNT%3A%23666666%3BDIV%3A%23cccccc%3B&adkw=AELymgVwKE4CdVmRZFBIZ85ay0yBaHKpFU_nq3BC2xzB3ienkow4GRkxwT9m5lpDicgl3mSC-9daBfqI36A38QwJuv08f_coapos50Rwhag5uSqCHy-o9ps7sWFQb2vNZJUP-QA6SSF3KDq0u5rNi0nsxTjzYJ_buw&boostcse=0&q=gaia&btnG=Search&cx=001733999371871106761%3Ajgc8jk2xgwe))

I'm not sure it is a copy. It just uses basic html elements for everything. No special markup. No elegance to it.

well its not mature, but its the design piracy that i am angry about

check out the date field picker (http://samples.gaiaware.net/Extensions/DateTimePicker/Overview/Default.aspx) for instance

You're kidding, right? I don't see any similarities. There's is also extremely slow rendering...

It doesn't mimic extjs's date picker except for having a month calendar. It is all very minimalist and plain looking. It isn't in the same league as extjs. It isn't visually appealing enough for me to consider it a contender. I can't say anything about its functionality though, it is a .net library and I refuse to use any more of MS's technology.

Not to mention that using ASP.NET to generate the controls is extremely limiting. I have found through trial and error, that it is a complete waste of time to try and use ASP.NET as the rendering engine. Instead, I use it only as the back-end web service. That's why I ended up ditching the idea of using the Coolite Library. Just way to limiting. Ya, its fast and easy to through something together, but you soon learn how it is near impossible to generate dynamic controls client side.

It's not a ripoff. It's just a bit crap. Nothing to worry about at all.
