the current docs for JsonStore's proxy config method says
proxy : Ext.data.DataProxy
The Proxy object which provides access to a data object.

but the source code says

Ext.data.JsonStore = function(c){
Ext.data.JsonStore.superclass.constructor.call(this, Ext.apply(c, {
proxy: !c.data ? new Ext.data.HttpProxy({url: c.url}) : undefined, // <== this line replaces any configured proxy with a HttpProxy if there is no inline data, and wipes out the configured proxy otherwise
reader: new Ext.data.JsonReader(c, c.fields)
}));
};

are the docs wrong or is the source wrong?

It's an inherited config that isn't valid in JsonStore.

Moved to its own thread because it is related to 1.1 and not to 1.1RC1:
