View Full Version : Is SASS the direction for CSS in Ext JS 4.0?

We have our own CSS compiler of sorts, before I ever heard of SASS. I'm curious if this is the direction for Ext4?

Also, is there JS version of the SASS compiler that anyone knows about? I hate having an ever increasing cornucopia of language dependencies for a build environment for JS & CSS. Our current system has duplicate implementations of the CSS compiler in JS and PHP so I can do CSS editing either on the server or live in the browser (where, really, it belongs, no?).

Stever,

We have been looking at SASS extensively for use in Ext JS 4.0. It will make Ext Themes even easier to customize.

Regarding compiling, it would be great to have that functionality built into JSBuilder, but no one is currently working on that specific aspect.

Perhaps that could lead to a "Theme builder" product or a "Theme designer" :)

Yeah, I am going to integrate Ext controls into ours at some point. If you look at the top part, we even call it "Theme Designer". ;) See below:

Hmmm... I just noticed that I had recorded that screencast with the mute on. Oh well. Anyhow, you can see how it is nice to be able to process the css in JS, though I suppose I could server side round-trips when ever a value is changed.

I could break out the work for Ext into a separate site when Ext4 ships, if ExtJS LLC does not object.
