HI, Good question.
Was playing today with TypeScript. Really like how unobtrusive it is.
You can use it whenever you like to, does not to my experience screw up your code.

I got into same problems when dynamically populating Tree store. Node parent is a property not a list, so you have to copy node or do some overrides.
