It seems to be that the add method in the TreeStore has an error in its generic definition.

com.extjs.gxt.ui.client.store.TreeStore.add(List<M>, boolean)

It should be:
com.extjs.gxt.ui.client.store.TreeStore.add(List<? extends M>, boolean)
