Default Komdo IDE 6 or Aptana Studio 3??

Komdo IDE 6 or Aptana Studio 3??

    Hi,
I am the newbie here and I am looking for a good IDE. From the discussion here i have the feeling that the Aptana Studio 3 and Komodo IDE 6 are the best, but I am not sure what is the best option for Sencha Touch development. Could you please advise me?

    Thanks a lot
    Regards,
    STeN

You can download Komodo Edit 6 for free and try it. I don't set up anything to get the context-sensitive help. The editor (and IDE) scans my project for classes and methods to provide the context-sensitive help. And it's not anywhere near as slow as eclipse at doing it.

If your going to use many different languages go with Aptana 3, otherwise you could probably use Komodo.

    +1 for Komodo
I use it mostly for Perl, JavaScript, and HTML.

So for those voting for Komodo, are you actually contrasting to Aptana, or just saying you happen to use it and so prefer it? I'd be interested in why you think it's better than Aptana (which is what I'm currently using, and basically happy with).

I just happen to use it. Mostly because of Perl. I've not tried newer versions of Aptana.

I tried Aptana, couldn't get into it. For a large (250K lines) PHP project, it was terribly slow. At times I had to walk away from my computer to let it finish scanning the project. Same for Eclipse with the Aptana plugin. Same for Zend Studio.

In general, I find the Eclipse platform to be rather monstrous and it's difficult (for me) to figure out what additional packages to install to get it to do what I want it to do.

I went through just about every IDE last year looking for "The One" that I could use 24/7/365 for everything. After using Komodo Edit for a month, I couldn't imagine using anything else. It's really that good.

The code completion is mindboggling. It seems to find functions in a singleton class on its own, which I never saw the other IDEs do very well.

I never tried JetBrains, so I have no comment on it.

Thanks for the tip on Komodo. I'm going to give it a try. I've never managed to get Aptana Studio 3 to work for me. It never auto completes even after having added their special library documents. The colouring is not as complete as in other IDEs and they don't support refactoring.

Apart from Komodo, I'd suggest giving PHPstorm a spin especially since they're having a 50% discount until the end of the month. It works very well.
