A newbie question about what is needed to get started with Sencha Touch 2

I would like to create a mobile web app - not an app I'm necessarily thinking of bundling with phonegap or whatever and submitting to the Apple app store. My main intention is just to have it run nicely on Android and iOS devices using the built-in web browsers and access a site I run with a mobile interface. I imagine there are many people who do similar things.

I figured I might as well start with Sencha Touch 2 (somebody please tell me if I'm dumb to do this) and have the simplest of questions to start.

I am reading the "Getting Started with Sencha Touch 2" information at http://docs.sencha.com/touch/2-0/#!/...etting_started. Immediately it lists under "Things you'll need: The free Sencha Touch 2.0 SDK.

I am using a Mac for my development, so that part is ok. But I am getting the feeling that the SDK is really for bundling the app for Apple app store submission. Am I wrong here?

Do I need the SDK if my goal is to create a web app? Is it desirable even?

    Thanks,

    doug

What we mean by SDK is the zip you download that holds the framework. You then create an HTML page and include the framework (the CSS and JS) and then you can start developing an app.

    Mitchell,

Thanks for your post. It seemed like there were two things to download. One was the framework you mentioned, which I did download, and which seems to work fine so far. Very cool.

Then there was a 2nd download offered "Download SDK Tools (Mac Only)" at http://www.sencha.com/blog/sencha-to...loper-preview/.

I guess that isn't needed for what I'm doing.

    Thanks,

    doug

The SDK tools is what can make a custom build of sencha touch and your app (if you are using MVC). It's an optional step.
