    I'm not sure about that one, but why not just hide the titlebar from the region using "titlebar: false"?
    Code:
     north:
           {
            split:false,
            initialSize: 82,
            titlebar: false
           },

    Code:
    titlebar:false
    works as he said - see the complex layout example. If you're not seeing this, please post a working example.

    titlebar:false i tried that, and for some reason couldn't get the title bar to be removed, but i did go to the complex layout example and used the code below, i got the title bar to not appear, but the first solution seems really easy and i am not sure why that didn't work for me. Thanks for your help i am very new to this and need all the help i can get.

    new Ext.BoxComponent({ // raw
    region:'north',
    el: 'north',
    height:106
    })

    You posted this in the wrong forum and got answers based on 1.x. The north panel in the 2.0 example doesn't have a titlebar b/c it specifically creates a BoxComponent which doesn't have a titlebar. The titlebar config does not apply to a Panel - you can specify no title, or header:false. Read the doc for those 2 configs to understand their interaction.
