Default What about GWT Designer support?

    What about GWT Designer support?

Hi, I'm curious to know if there is a plan to make working gxt3 library with GWT Designer?
No prediction on the development schedule?
I hope so, I think gxt is a very good library but which can not do without a complete compliance with GWT Tools.

    I had the same question:

seems like there is no intention to support it - unfortunately.

We had plans on using GXT3.0 for some of our upcoming projects, but without WYSIWYG editor, it wont work for us - i'm using it for some of my minor private projects, and since I'm new to GWT/GXT, and accustomed to WYSIWYG editors I had a rough time connecting all the bits - and I'm still struggling with some basic things.

Been there. At the beginning, I struggled with GXT for several weeks but looking at the demos and the accompanying source code REALLY helped. It's very similar to developing with Swing.

It also helps to have some rudimentary knowledge of GWT. If you're feeling overwhelmed, I would start with just the basic GWT HelloWorld example as it shows the basic AJAX-call-to-RemoteServiceServlet-to-web-page-and-handle-results pattern and probably will hold true for most everything you will want to do.

After you have the GWT HelloWorld app running, try converting the app to use GXT instead. It's a good way to learn how the widgets work.

I have a naive question from somebody not having used the designer.
Can't you make a design using plain old GWT widgets, then hand-edit it to replace them with GXT widgets, where needed?

It could be done like that, but we(as a company) can not rely on doing that all the time. That is not acceptable for us.
For me personally I can get used to not using the designer, but when you have a designer team, you don't want your developers to bug with the design. Designers want visual presentation of what they are doing, otherwise their job would turn into nightmare(or should I say - they would not have a job ) - not so much because of basic layout organization, but taking care of those little fine tunes, details and eye-candy that make all the difference to the end user, but is the trickiest part of all.
That is where designers(editors) are a must.
