Question Best practise for setting controller member variables

Best practise for setting controller member variables

    I'm using the following
    Code:
    leftline:50,baseline:0,textPadding:5, scalaX:1,scalaY:1,
way in the define context of a controller.
then getting the values within the class as globals using this. It would be nice if they were private vars for my purposes. How can I do this.
    Thanks

There isn't a concept in javascript as private variables/methods.
