Kitchen sink runs but simulator blank

I am trying out sencha touch for the first time (using 2.0).

I am able to load the demo app from MDS fine, which verifies my environment.

next I created a new project importing code from Kitchen Sink. It runs thru, everything seems fine based on the console message, but the simulator screen is blank (flashed Kitchen Sink title on top for a brief while).

No error messages at all. Where do I start looking for problems?

Using a debugger where you can inspect the DOM would be my first step.
