There's nothing to give up ON. Without a body condition, THERE IS NO SEARCH. Honestly, Mitchell, I've tried to be very patient and understanding about this. But I do not see how it could possibly have been handled so poorly. The forums are the face you present to potential developers. And it's not a pretty one.

I personally disagree but naturally I would disagree. If you search for a simple term like 'grid' it will search both in title and the body of posts so it's not like it will never search the body. We just need a way to target only the body.

About the unexpected results from term like:

    line chart title:highlight

So we were doing things to try and not have zero results returned. For instance, and this isn't exactly how it is, but if you have let's say 3 terms all should match but if you have 4 then at least 3 should match and there is a matrix to keep going. Since this has produced unexpected results we are going to return it and give full control to the query you provide. So we are going to make the change, push to our dev box, test and then push to prod.

@jep I need a suggestion from you if you don't mind.

Currently I have it working (based on screenshot in my last post) that it will only search within the forum you are within so in that case it would only search within the Ext: Open Discussion forum. This is the easiest thing to do and can keep it but there are a couple things else we can do.

We can allow you to add other forums but it will always make sure the forum you are within is searched within. So you could choose other forums and Ext: Open Discussion will always be searched within also. Not a big fan of this really.

The other thing we can do is we have a mechanism where we can add extra boost to a single forum. So we can add boost to the forum you are in and allow you to add other forums which would not get the boost. This would be quite simple to do actually but would be the first time using this param so testing would have to be done.

Let me know your thoughts about these situations. I can make it a config to toggle between these 3 if wanted also.

    -----

About the body param, we have actually have had a post param but we are debugging why it's not working. I will probably change the name to body as it's more meaningful to it's job.

Currently we have a posts ("undocumented") that will search the body but it will also search the title to bump the score. I kinda like that but wish it wouldn't highlight the title but I can also see why we wouldn't want to do that so we are discussing what is the overall better solution.

For right now you can do something like:

    posts:grid -title:grid

And that will find matches in the posts' body for grid but also exclude if grid is in the title. However this isn't a solution as you will then miss out on some valid matches. We are going to fiddle with some things, push to our dev box and will report back with what we have working.

I think maybe the search box within a forum should only search that forum and child forums and not mess with the "saved" search setting. Ideally, this would also be on the Sencha Touch 2.x Forums. I know there didn't used to be a "find within this forum" page on the parent page, but I think this would make the search flow very easy if you had it there.

As far as adding other forums, I'm okay with that but like you said not a big fan. I just don't think it will be used often that way.

The other thing we can do is we have a mechanism where we can add extra boost to a single forum. I'm not sure if this is a majority view, but I don't like the "boost" idea. To me, they make it less clear what is being returned as the results. Or is this for some sort of sorting results by "relevancy"? I typically don't use that option and just sort by date because of how rapidly the API changes

However this isn't a solution as you will then miss out on some valid matches.
Right, not a real solution and will cause frustration because it isn't as obvious what is and isn't being matched. Again, I'd just use google to avoid the hassle.

Bug: Go to the main Forum search box and just type in something like grid and hit return. Then when the results page is up, change it to something like chart. No matter what, I always get a FAQ page for Smilies instead of updated results: http://www.sencha.com/forum/misc.php
If I click add/edit conditions, add/edit forums or help, I'm taken back to:
    http://www.sencha.com/forum/#

I wonder if this is because I have it set to put the results in a page and not a popup.

Thanks for your suggestions! I think we can leave it to only search within the one forum.

About bug, thank you will look into it right now.

About the posts param, I have Mike looking into adding/changing a param for body searching. I do fully agree that it should only search posts body and that we need it like in 2009

    Thanks for your continued help!

Bug is fixed, I had a JS error. My testing I implemented something for the popup but didn't test in the page results. All is good now, thank you!

We just pushed some things to prod.

First, the minimum field match has been changed so your query

    line chart title:highlight

now only returns results (currently only 1) that matches all those.

Second, the posts param now only searches within the post body.

Third, the ability to search within a forum is now open to all. If you are in a category where it has child forums it will search all child categories. It will only search within these forums and will not let you choose any others and no boosting.

Fourth, with the ability to search within a forum the search input now takes up the entire width (bout 850px wide) and is in a static place within the pages that will show the field. This may change when/if this search makes it site wide.
