iOS iPad 3 memory issues

I've got an application developed in Sencha Touch 1.1, it's running native using Cordova/Phonegap.

It works great on iPad 2 and iPad mini. Usually, it works great on iPad 3 too. However, when it opens a Sencha Chart graph it might crash.

When I'm looking in the XCode console, I see that the appliction on the iPad 3 receives memory warnings quite often. The iPad mini and iPad 2 doesn't. That's unexpected, since the iPad 3 has the twice amount of memory and the application doesn't use more memory on the iPad 3. It uses about 85MB.

Does anyone have a clue what's going on?

Yes, the iPad 3 spec wise has more resources but it actually performs worse than iPad 2 in many areas. iPad 4 was released same year as iPad 3 and fixed many of these issues. When I bought the iPad 3 and compared it with iPad 2, many things felt slower and jittery. Was unhappy with that purchase.

That's interesting. Good thing to hear that the iPad 4 performed better.

I have a modest tab panel application that has several carousels each with around 16 (1.x mb) photos each. It runs fine in a web browser & in the iOS simulator but crashes (after the memory warning) on my iPad3. The crash occurs whenever a carousel tab is selected a second time.

Are there any available options to try on the iPad3? I can't very well tell my customers - "oh, you should fork over another $500 for an iPad4 to run my app". ;}

I've tried removing each carousel as different tabs are selected - no joy. I've also seen a "Maximum number of files open 78" on the device console log on some variations as I experimented with the multiple carousels.

Any insights would be most appreciated even if only to note that other developers can do these simple apps with no problems on their iPad3.
