    Can you give more information about what exactly you are wanting to set the layout to? What do you mean by "custom layout data"?

    The ability to specify the layout config as a free-form Object was considered a bug in 2.1 and is being removed in 2.2, so if you can help us understand why you need it then we can try and accommodate.
