On window 7 professional, appname.exe show a default icon even thou the window itself and the program tab both show the correct icon.

  2. This is actually as expected. Unfortunately we are dealing with pre-compiled binaries, and injecting an icon resource into the executable after it has been linked is a very difficult task without third-party help. As long as your .ico file is sitting beside the .exe, it will be used as a resource for your window and task tray icon.

For Sencha Architect (which uses Desktop Packager), we have our installation creation tool (BitRock InstallBuilder) create an application shortcut (.lnk) with our desired .ico as its icon, and use the shortcut in different launch areas such as the task tray, Start menu, Desktop, etc.

I'll push this as a feature request of embedding the .ico into the pre-compiled binary. Thanks!

Just to let everyone know, I've successfully used:

http://www.shelllabs.com/change_exe_icon.htm - to change the icon
    http://www.jrsoftware.org/isinfo.php - to build a setup.exe
