Please clarify what I can edit with external editor and what I should not

I'm confused on the rules for updating source code outside of SA. Is there a good description I can read about so I totally understand and don't trip over issues.

I've recently added the override code refresh but it hasn't made it to beta yet. When it does Architect will reload outside changes.

Other than overrides we only recommend js resources
