    Answered: read only files

So, I've been asking for this one for years:

    http://www.sencha.com/forum/showthre...thin-Architect

Basically, I just want to have an option where Architect can automatically flip the read only flag on files it uses / generates. I need this because we have an SCM that imports files as read only and I can't get this changed. Even if I write scripts to do this, I know some people here would still have a bad time with it.

Sorry to keep harping on this point. I realize not everyone cares about this, but it is important to us and I know we'd be able to leverage Architect much better with this in place. Any chance of seeing this in Architect 3.x?

  2. It certainly 'could' be done by shelling out to the command line.

We probably will add an API to the SDP side of things (the native packager).

So basically you want it to turn off the read-only bit so that it can write to the file system whenever you save?

Yes, that's exactly what I want. No prompt or error message, just silently flipping the bit and letting the save happen. And if not everyone wants it this way, it can be made a Setting, but this would help us use Architect better.

We do have a ticket in for this feature but don't have the ability to do it on the native side yet.

    Argh - that's too bad.

When you say on the native side, do you mean using the privileged JavaScript API's in Architect? I've had to perform file manipulations where the API's didn't provide necessary features - specifically older versions of Java - and I usually wound up just shelling out to a command window to execute the script I want. From an implementation side, this is actually how I envisioned Architect working on this feature, opening up a command window and just executing the attrib or chmod command depending on OS to flip the bit on on files in the project directory en masse. Maybe some extra rules to do this only after read-only files detected or even just a button from the UI that says 'make my files writable'. I was hopeful on this after seeing the excellent work done with the themeing on 3.x, since it is shelling out to execute the compass command and build the css. Just an idea / suggestion if it makes getting it done easier / sooner

Thanks for the update - still hoping to see this one day.

I think the really awesome thing would be if you guys could lock down the API to the point where you feel comfortable making some of it public and then provide a means for developers to write plugins for Architect - as in actually extending the functionality of Architect itself.

No matter how much functionality you give us, we'll always want more!

I realize this might not be as high on the priority as some other features, but has it been considered for the 3.x line?

It definitely has been considered; the first step in this direction is the .aux files that allows you to integrate your own custom components into the toolbox.

So I've been checking this when I got time every couple of Architect releases. I saw this morning in 3.1.0.1851 that read only files work exactly as I want. If the file is read only, there is a nice dialog box that asks if I want to overwrite the setting. Excellent! Thanks for getting to this one.
