View Full Version : How to start developing with iSeries v5R4

Hi, this is a personal approach to start developing an inquiry as a test using RPG ILE. I have read some of the articles by Aaron Bartell and I think I have a missing point. I understood I have to use service program from json as a mediator. How do I design the user interface? Do I need to get the Ext Designer to accelerate this?. What is the track to start.? Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Do you already have a HTTP service that can return JSON data (you can simply test that with a browser)?

After that it's just a matter of configuring the store and reader to process this data and do something with it (e.g. show it in a grid). You could use the Designer for this, but it's not required.

Thanks Condor for your answer. I have HTTP already configured in our shop because I read some articles from Aaron and I tried his samples. My question just to be sure is: If I do not use the designer to ease the development, I have to use Aaron's templates or follow sencha's tutorials to get involved in ExtJS. Another thing, where do I find information to configure the store and reader?
Once again Condor, thanks.

You could start with:
Learning Center (http://www.sencha.com/learn)
API documentation (http://dev.sencha.com/deploy/dev/docs/)
EXT JS in Action (http://www.manning.com/garcia/)

Sorry I didn't see this thread sooner.

jlrengel, you can find many tutorials on how to use RPG + ExtJS on IBM i at the www.OpenRPGUI.com site (click the Articles navigation link).

Hope that helps,
