View Full Version : Begining with EXt GWT

24 Dec 2010, 11:59 AM
Please as I am just begining to explore Ext-Gwt, i have some basic questions.
1) Since I had begun studying GWT before seing Ext-Gwt, I want to know whether I need to master GWT first ?
2) Can I easily integrate Ext-Gwt in an existing project ?
3) Can I easily use Ext-Gwt with J2EE ?
4) Since I am in Africa and we dont't easily have acess here to Amazon shipping which is a bit expensive and since I am a Java novice and Gwt novice, where can I easily find hands-on and step by step docmuent from beginners to expertise that I can buy online with my VISA Card and dowload it on PDF or even video courses on DVD. This will help a lot an enhance my studying process which is really slow for now.
5) How to effectively use the API Donc (http://www.sencha.com/gxtdocs/) when i go in there I am almost lost.

Thanks for your support.

Hello there,
1) Well since EXT-GWT is based on GWT, is good to understand GWT first. But you dont need to master GWT.Few people in the world do master GWT anyway :)

2) If the existing project is a GWT project, the integration is pretty easy. If it s another typeof project then you might need some extra work.

3) Yes you can :)

4) This is one of the weakness of GXT. There is no user manual or something like that. you will have to go through the explorer the docs and the forum. i saw this book here https://www.packtpub.com/ext-gwt-2-0-beginners-guide/book maybe you can try it. it looks like they provide a pdf too. I hav not tried the book so i can not tell you if it s good.

5) I would try with the examples first http://www.sencha.com/examples/explorer.html#overview and then if you are looking for something special look in the forum and then in the doc

hope this could help
