I have tried the following to disable quicktips but it is not working

Ext.tip.QuickTipManager.disable();

Is this a bug? or am I doing wrong? - please advice!

Thanks in advance!

I think you're doing it correctly.

ExtJS version?

Are you sure that the tooltips you're seeing are QuickTips? It won't disable other types of tooltip.

am using 4.0.7 also I guess i know the difference between these two tooltips.

Ordinary default tooltip will be in theme color. whereas quick tip (for validation errors) will have red border. Correct me if am wrong.

The docs are a little misleading. The quicktip used for field validation is a separate instance to the one used elsewhere. See the source for this method:

http://docs.sencha.com/ext-js/4-0/#!/api/Ext.layout.component.field.Field-method-initTip

It's a bit annoying but not actually a bug. You should be able to disable it directly, something like this:

Ext.layout.component.field.Field.tip.disable();
