Hi, in one app, I let the user click on a link that generates a very big PDF file. I would like to show a progress indicator to show the user the status of the process.

How can I do this?.

The PDF is generated by a CGI program server side.

Regards,
Leonardo.

Does the server provide this information for you? Most likely you would just have to create a 'busy' progress.

Not now, but I can do this. How?.

Yes, I thought so, but, it's better to have a more or less "real" progress.

The server would have to report the progress back to the client along with the estimated size of the final result so the client calc and display.

The client would need to check on intervals since it has to instigate the conversation.

So, the client starts the process, then the server answers back with the progress and total until it reaches the final result, where it sends the PDF stream.

I didn't test this, but can I send progress on the same communication channel?.
