View Full Version : 2.1 and BlackBerry support

19 Oct 2012, 9:36 AM
I've just tried the demos coming with 2.1 rc2 on a PlayBook and on a BB10 device.

Most demos don't load (from a URL). They work fine when loaded on a Nexus 7.
Is this just a problem with the demos or has support for RIM's tablet been dropped?

ST makes the browser crash (not your fault).
After looking at the themes/css folders, I can't see the promised BB10 theme.
Will it be released with 2.1 or has this been postponed?

For BB10 we don't have any public information on any of our efforts for.

Well, Sencha publicly stated that the theme would be released by the end of October, so I was assuming it would be released along with 2.1, but there has been no news since.

We were really hoping that there would be something to play with at the end of the month that would work on BB10 and PlayBook. Is there an ETA on the release of 2.1 GA?

Hi Mukul,

I assume you are using the Beta 3 build for the BlackBerry Dev Alpha device. The issue about the Sencha Touch 2.0 crashing the Dev Alpha browser is fixed now and you will be able to get the fix in the next public refresh of build, which is currently scheduled for mid November. The issue was tracked in the BlackBerry developer issue tracker, https://www.blackberry.com/jira/browse/BBTEN-300.

BB10 theme from Sencha released as beta in November has some errors looking for an image called tip2_left.png

So it is 12/14/12 and trying to get ready for end of Jan Blackberry launch. Newest Alpha phone takes the bar packaged file - when you go to open the file on the phone it still crashes. Can not give any more info. If the Sencha developer for RIM is in the San Francisco office I can come over to the office and show exactly what is happening if this helps.

Hi There,

We have the latest Webworks SDK online now and also an updated OS build as well. You can the find the latest Webworks SDK at https://developer.blackberry.com/html5/download/#blackberry10 and you can get the lastest OS build for your dev alpha from, https://developer.blackberry.com/blackberry10devalphas/update/.

Please re-package it using the latest SDK and test it on the latest OS build.

The theme needs an update. The scss file is either looking for graphics in a non-existent folder or for pictures which don't exist in a default install of ST2...
It's a shame that RIM and Sencha failed to deliver a working theme for the launch of BB10.

Here is how to fix it for people who just want to quickly compile this theme.

1) Make sure you also copy the bb10 folder from the zip into
<project root>/resources/themes/images

2) Now edit your config.rb file in /resources/sass
and replace
$theme-name: 'bb10';
$theme-name: '../../../../resources/themes/images/bb10';

3) Now you should be able to go back to your root folder ad type:
# compass compile resources/sass

Hi There,

Thanks for the tips. Sencha is working on their new release 2.1.1, which has the BB 10 Theme support. It is being tested at the moment and will be released soon. There will be blogs on the RIM side as well as on the Sencha side as well.

OK, thanks for the heads up.
Here are things I think need to be improved

The theming "engine" needs to be updated so as to support both local and global themes folders so that we can merge our app's theme with a global theme like bb10
There needs to be better documentation regarding where to put files and how to use components like Ext.bb.CrossCut
Would be great if the pictos could be the official ones from RIM. The pack we can download from RIM doesn't contain everything we need
The top blue toolbar is missing
Would be nice if more colour variables were defined, so that we can re-use them in our css definitions
