I'm very confused about how and when to use these references. And then, when does "widget.XXXX" come into play? Would someone kindly explain how best to understand them?

Thank you,
Newbie ST User

Id is a unique identifier for a component instance.
Name is used to identify form field instances (similar to HTML) when gathering form values.
Alias is a short string name for a class, for example 'proxy.Ajax' or 'widget'viewport'.
Xtype is a specific alias for visual components:

alias: 'widget.foo',
xtype: 'foo'
