While the Original Poster seems to have found the root of the problem, his solution is not even a work around per say, it just doesn't use the buggy feature. The issue occurs when a maxHieght is set on a Ext.tree.Panel and the user has expanded enough nodes to cause a vertical scroll bar to appear. When the user has scrolled down in the panel and expands an additional node, the view jumps back to the top. However, this behavior does not occur if a height is set instead. Given that I want the tree view to take up less space when enough nodes are collapsed to avoid a scrollbar, but only take a certain maximum amount of vertical space (I am displaying the tree as a menu config for a button to provide site navigation), setting an explicit height is not a viable workaround to the buggy scroll bar behavior caused by the maxHeight config.
