i need 2 containers inside a toolbar.

var mybar = new Ext.Toolbar({
items: [{
xtype: 'container'
items: [{
xtype: 'button',
text: 'search by date',
handler: function () {
var me = this;
me.up('toolbar').down('#byDateText').show();
}
}]
},
{
xtype: 'container',
items: [{
xtype: 'textfield',
hidden: true,
itemId: 'byDateText'
}]
}]
});

by clicking button a container having textfield should appear..i cannot achieve this in extjs 2.3, nd i am also new to extjs..plz can any1 help me out...
the toolbar button is for filtering store acc. to its fields. all that is working.

I am using the toolbar in grid as,

tbar: mybar

the issue is that there is no 'items' configs in 2.3 extjs
also if i want to horizontally and vertically set the layout. both containers a re to be vbox layout. but this option is not present in 2.3
nd i have to use only 2.3. is it possible
