View Full Version : Two (last?) weaknesses in the API

25 Jul 2008, 1:08 AM
Hi all,

I think it remains 2 less or more important points that should be enhanced in the API for end users.

1 - The use of string properties for displaying text, sorting items... should NOT be mandatory. Some times we want more flexibility or more type-safety : it is discussed here (http://extjs.com/forum/showthread.php?t=38371) and here (http://extjs.com/forum/showthread.php?t=37006).

2 - There are still some inconsistent use of generics. The fact that they are not used everywhere in the samples (http://extjs.com/forum/showthread.php?t=42260) and the fact that the documentation encourages us to disable generics warnings (http://extjs.com/forum/showthread.php?p=190263#post190263) let me think that some warnings are ignored in gxt development. Darell, I'm absolutely not telling how you have to work, I just want to point out to you that some warnings are reaching end users (everybody do not want to disable generics warnings...). I'll give you some examples if you ask.

Hi guys,

I've opened a feature request (http://extjs.com/forum/showthread.php?p=221319) for 1.

I also agree for 2. As a first step, Darell, I think you should use all generics in the Explorer demo.

Sorry, but actually some generics are still missing in Explorer demo (e.g. TreeLoader in AsyncTree).
