I want a few headings, and <br> does not do it. Here are 2 headings on the attached thumbnails, only it for GWT.

Well that's not just multi line is it?

You want header groups.

There is a GroupHeaderGrid plugin for Ext 2.x (http://extjs.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22337), but I'll have to rewrite part of it to make it work under Ext 3.x.

I'm in the process of migrating all my plugins to Ext 3.x, so you can expect the plugin within the next few weeks.
