I'm using 3.0-rc2 and I'm having the exact same problem as this thread from 2.x http://extjs.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15535.

I have a TabPanel inside of a FormPanel which uses deferredRender: false. If I set deferredRender: true then the width works. I have to use deferredRender: false though as I need the fields across all the tabs to submit.

This is a problem in FF3, IE 6 works fine.

Is this a known problem and is there a solution to it?

I just found that the code this thread http://extjs.com/forum/showthread.php?t=63971 solves the problem in FF and doesn't break it in IE. It also fixed a different problem where the width of the combo was not being created wide enough for the text. Now if there is more text it gets wider to accommodate it. This does however cause a horizontal scroll bar to appear in IE.

Is this considered a bug and something that will be fixed in the final version of 3.0? It seems to me that a lot of people have been having this problem and it always resolves around deferredRender. Should deferredRender be made to work better?
