View Full Version : Ext Js vs GWT

We are evaluating RIA frameworks and ext gwt is at the top of our list. One thing that concerns me about your offerings is that you have two products with very different approaches. The forum statistics tell me that the js is about 2 to 3 times as popular as gwt. Is there any synergy between them? My concern is that gwt might suffer from lack of attention given these usage patterns.

Off topic: the names of your products are confusing and not distictive enough. Whatever its other faults, qooxdoo is unlikely to be confused in a google search.

Jeff -

I'm from the Ext JS Team. We definitely have synergies between the JS and GWT team. You will find that are APIs are very similar and we use the same underlying markup and CSS between the libraries. They are both very different approaches but both are perfectly valid.

Ext JS provides you the ability to be completely server-side agnostic and work with Java, ColdFusion, PHP, .Net, Perl, etc.

Ext GWT has some cool functionality that is able to trim code and send out custom builds for your particular platform at compile time.

Our teams keep in sync about product features which we'd like to implement and making sure our roadmaps stay in alignment with one another.
