View Full Version : How to Get grid to resize to container

My basic issue is that when dynamically adding a panel after a grid (contained in a tabpanel), scrollbars (may) appear, and the grid does not resize to accomodate them.

In order to try to show a simple example, I've taken the "Tabs with Nested Layouts" example at:
http://www.extjs.com/deploy/dev/examples/layout-browser/layout-browser.html
and tweaked it a bit by wrapping the nested grid in another panel (yes, I've read the section about not over-nesting, and that the grid could be added directly to the tabpanel - but then adding another panel directly to the gridpanel doesn't seem to work either).

The file I've changed for this example is "combination.js", located at:
http://www.extjs.com/deploy/dev/examples/layout-browser/layouts/combination.js

The updated file contents are:

...and to answer my own post, the simple answer is:
Don't use a 'fit' layout on a container that is going to hold more than one component

...so, using an 'anchor' layout instead gives me much better results.
One caveat: If I use an anchor of '100%', then I get an (unnecessary) horizontal scroll bar when adding a dynamic panel, so I used anchor: '-20'. This still gives me wasted space after the grid is rendered, but before any dynamic panels are added, but I guess I can live with that.
