There is an easy and quick answer - You can take that extension and write a plug-in based on it's JS code. Of course You'll need to add all the necessary Java classes, but that's not that hard...

After I was asked to evaluate the GXT, I've already finished more than twenty plug ins, mostly for grids. And I can surely do the same with group tabs, but I do not wish to split far from official...
This is IMO one of the coolest UI features in Ext 3.0 - it would solve a lot of layout issues and is a good idea for an interface.
Any plans to incorporate that in this release of GXT?
