Answered: Keyboard navigation in modal window problem
Doing some accessibility review of basic ExtJS widgets and I've run into a problem with modal windows. If my modal window has nested elements (for instance a toolbar with several buttons), I find myself in a sort of keyboard trap when I navigate into those nested elements. When the window is opened, it receives focus, ENTER focuses the first child element (seemingly the heading), then TAB navigates among whatever other primary elements I've added. So I TAB to my toolbar, press ENTER to activate it and TAB again to select a button. Let's say I change my mind, or didn't mean to activate the toolbar. In a normal panel, ESC would navigate me back up to the immediate parent (the toolbar container in this case) but with a modal window, ESC closes the window. Am I missing an alternative keyboard combination to navigate up? (FF8, ExtJS 4.0.7, with and w/o NVDA 2011.2)
Thanks for any assistance!
You can override the pressing of ESC to close the window by specifying the onEsc function on the Window.
